A Fine 17th Century & Late Oak Wainscot Armchair

A pretty peg and joint fireside chair thought to originate from the Shropshire region. With good colour, manageable in size and relatively light in weight. Possibly fruit wood ?

The pediment with foliate decoration and scrolled terminals over a rectangular scroll and 'heart' motif panel. The larger lower back panel with characteristic carved lozenge and fluttering pennants design.
The slightly down-swept arms resting on turned uprights, the plank seat supported by turned front legs and raked stile back legs adjoined by peripheral stretchers.
